Marijuana and Consciousness Does marijuana create an altered state of consciousness, or does it simply allow users to interpret more information at a quicker speed giving us the illusion of being stoned? For many years people of all ages have been using marijuana mainly for recreational purposes, not knowing that it increases their senses and perhaps even helps cure or prevent disease. After many carefully constructed experiments, it is now accepted by several scientists around the world that marijuana effects the human body as a whole, thus creating an altered state of consciousness. The impending paragraphs will discuss how marijuana users are affected while intoxicated. There are many sensations that one may feel while high but it is a function of the individual users state of mind. Factors that may influence their behaviour include whether they are happy or sad, under stress or relaxed, or just feel like having a good time with friends. Again, there is no clear-cut definition on what marijuana will do to the user; it all depends on the users emotional state, and whether or not the user accepts the so-called high. If the user doesnt want to feel the high then in most cases they will not. There are two senses that will affect everybody when they smoke marijuana; hearing and vision. This is not to say that it will affect everybody in the same way, but they will feel a significant difference within these two senses. Conceivably the most common activity to do when intoxicated is to listen to music, mainly because there is an abundance of auditory stimuli, giving the user a choice to choose from many different sounds and tones to focus on. Very rarely will a heavily intoxicated user listen to everything going on in the song. Usually the user will focus on one particular beat, or tone within the song and focus on it while ignoring everything else in their immediate environment. With regards to correlation, there are times where it would be nonsensical to conclude that a relationship between two variables would mean causation. First, consider the positive correlation between the average annual sales of cell phones and the average annual amount of influenza cases, meaning there is an increase in flu cases as cell phone sales increase. Then, by just looking at the relationship between cell phone sales and flu cases, it could easily be implied that buying a new cell phone causes influenza. Clearly this assumption is highly illogical, hence psychologists do not want the correlation to be released to the press or any forms of social media. The idea that two variables show a correlation, but does not indicate a direct cause is known as the third-variable problem (Stanovich 72). An example of the third-variable problem is apparent in a correlational study between violent video games and the aggressive behaviors of a child. Although the two variables show a relation ship, the alternative variable in this study could be parental supervision. Consequently, the correlational study cannot conclude that violent video games are the cause of aggressive behaviors in a child because it did not consider the influence a child’s parents have on their overall behavior. I have spent all my primary years attending -name of school-and have enjoyed every moment of it. I would also like to make some improvements to the toilets and toilet sinks, and all the water troughs that are already around the school, as I know some do not work properly. But, leadership is much more and it’s much harder, and you must be prepared for all possibilities, consequences and circumstances that will come with being a leader. Mahatama Gandhi and Celibacy and Asceticism Essay When Gandhi was 16 his father became very ill. Being very devoted to his parents, he attended to his father at all times during his illness. However, one night, Gandhis uncle came to relieve Gandhi for a while. He retired to his bedroom where carnal desires overcame him and he made love to his wife. Shortly afterward a servant came to report that Gandhis father had just died. Gandhi felt tremendous guilt and never could forgive himself. He came to refer to this event as double shame. The incident had significant influence in Gandhi becoming celibate at the age of 36, while still married. [78] This decision was deeply influenced by the philosophy of Brahmacharya — spiritual and practical purity — largely associated with celibacy and asceticism. Gandhi saw Brahmacharya as a means of becoming close with God and as a primary foundation for self realisation. In his autobiography he tells of his battle against lustful urges and fits of jealousy with his childhood bride, Kastu rba. He felt it his personal obligation to remain celibate so that he could learn to love, rather than lust. For Gandhi, Brahmacharya meant control of the senses in thought, word and deed. . They had to survive the â€Å"middle passage† and legions of cruelties and atrocities committed against them before they even faced the hardships of America. Once in the new world and on the plantations Africans had to deal with the continual pressures of enslavement and dominance from another culture. Slave masters intervened continually in the lives of their slaves, from directing their labor to approving or disapproving marriages. Some masters made elaborate written rules, and most engaged in constant meddling, directing, nagging, threatening, and punishing. Many took advantage of their position to exploit slave women sexually. What slaves hated most about slavery was not the hard work to which they were subjected, but their lack of control over their lives, their lack of freedom. Slaves developed their own way of life and struggled to increase their independence while their masters strove to limit it. Enslaved African Americans developed a sense of racial identity. They naturally drew together, helping each other in danger, need, and resistance. The resource that enabled slaves to maintain such defiance was their culture: the body of beliefs and values born of their past and their present. They had to survive the â€Å"middle passage† and legions of cruelties and atrocities committed against them before they even faced the hardships of America. Once in the new world and on the plantations Africans had to deal with the continual pressures of enslavement and dominance from another culture. Slave masters intervened continually in the lives of their slaves, from directing their labor to approving or disapproving marriages. Some masters made elaborate written rules, and most engaged in constant meddling, directing, nagging, threatening, and punishing. Many took advantage of their position to exploit slave women sexually. What slaves hated most about slavery was not the hard work to which they were subjected, but their lack of control over their lives, their lack of freedom.
